The 7th annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards, presented by Learjet, is taking place on January 22nd in Beverly Hills, California and Pete McLeod will be in attendance for the star-studded event at the Beverly Hilton.

Hollywood superstar and the official ambassador of aviation John Travolta will present Tom Cruise with the ‘Top Aviation Inspiration and Patriotism Award’. Cruise has had a lifelong interest in aviation and is an accomplished aerobatic pilot himself. Cruise also starred in Top Gun, the highest grossing aviation movie of all time that has also inspired generations of young pilots.

“It’s the Academy Awards of aviation and I’m thrilled to be a part of the Living Legends of Aviation Awards ceremony this year,” said McLeod who is taking a break from his busy pre-season training schedule to attend. “It’s always great to meet with others that are as passionate about aviation as I am.”

Dr. Buzz Aldrin is also being honoured at this year’s ceremony; Travolta will present him with the ‘First Out of This World Landing and Take-Off Award’. The Apollo 11 mission and Aldrin’s pioneering first steps on the moon marked their 40th anniversary in 2009.

Red Bull Air Race World Championship pilot Pete McLeod will be attending the 3rd annual CPT Racing Experience event at the Western Fair Agriplex this coming weekend. McLeod will be on hand both Saturday and Sunday as he takes part in the public autograph sessions, which will feature racing stars from all genres of motorsport.

With a solid list of achievements under his belt, including seven first place showings in aerobatic competition prior to joining the Red Bull Air Race circuit in 2009, McLeod holds the distinction of being the youngest pilot ever, as well as the first and only Canadian, to compete in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship and will be entering his second year of competition with the series in 2010.

His flying experience started just weeks after he was born when he went for a ride in a plane with his father at the age of six weeks followed by his first lesson at three years of age. McLeod’s aerobatics career started at the age of 16 in his hometown of Red Lake, Ontario. He now calls the London International Airport home for his Pete McLeod Racing team, and is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario.

The general autograph sessions will take place from 12:30pm – 2:00pm, Saturday January 16th and Sunday January 17th. Additional information about the CPT Racing Experience can be found online at www.cptrace.com.

General admission tickets to the show are available now, with advance discounts available to those who buy online. Entering its third year, the CPT Racing Experience is a unique, family-friendly motorsports-themed trade show that will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16 and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 17. The event features a wide variety of dynamic and interactive attractions and serves as the lone event of its kind in Southwestern Ontario.

McLeod Finishes Rookie Season

Last Race 2009

Pete McLeod of Canada finished his rookie season in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship on a high note with a promising 12th place finish in Barcelona on Sunday in front of a record-breaking crowd of 800,000 spectators.

McLeod was able to advance through the Wild Card competition into the Top 12 round in the high-speed, low-altitude race for only the second time in six races this year by taking advantage of the skills he learned flying float planes in northern Canada.

McLeod, at 25 the youngest pilot in race history, could have finished a career-high 10th on the difficult 6.4-km race track through 20-meter high Air Gate obstacles set up in the Mediterranean off the beaches of Barcelona. But he just hit a pylon, bursting the Air Gate as he passed through at nearly 370 km/h and being assessed a six-second penalty for the infraction.

"I didn't even feel the pylon," said McLeod, who had impressed the veterans with his smooth flying on the challenging Barcelona track with its "quadro" gate made especially difficult by the variable coastal winds. "I was pleased with both my runs so it was a great end to the season for me. It's been full of excitement and challenges at the same time."
